The contents of the new anthology include short fiction, non-fiction and poetry by sixteen members of the group. Items are based on given homework assignments, impromptu writing, and personal projects of group members.
The monthly homework represents the main focus of the group. It is a fine launching pad for newcomers taking up the craft of writing. These stimulating 500 to 700 word tasks are intended to evoke the talents and style of each individual and often produce amazing results. They can also be an enjoyable diversion for more seasoned writers who can become caught up in their own larger projects, but whose writing is enriched by an occasional distraction. Another special event that is part of our monthly get-together is to write a 50-word piece that includes four words randomly chosen from the dictionary.
Aspiring writers are welcome to our group. Experience is not required as we encourage and support each other and explore different genres. Group meetings are held on the second Saturday of every month except January. The venue is the St John Hall, 243 Edmonton Road, Te Atatu South, Auckland.
